Source: Qld gov to create its own quantum and advanced tech strategy
- The Queensland Government plans to develop a quantum and advanced technologies strategy in collaboration with universities and industry to retain future tech jobs and skills in the state.
- The strategy aims to create high-value technology jobs and support the commercialization of research and intellectual property in Queensland, preventing them from going offshore.
- It will build on the work of the national quantum strategy released in May 2023 and focus on applications in renewable energy, critical minerals, batteries, medicine, and defense.
- The state aims to advance its research in compound semiconductors, photonics, and quantum technologies through this strategy.
- Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk emphasizes the importance of developing production facilities for advanced technologies in the state to retain research and IP locally.
- The University of Queensland’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry, believes quantum technologies can address national and global challenges and expects the strategy to create a pipeline of talent for future excellence.
- The strategy is expected to be delivered by the end of 2023.
